How fast does a rice cooker cook rice?
From the Philippines (where all three meals of the day feature rice as a staple) —It depends on
1- the type of rice (not on the amount of rice to be cooked) and
2- the type of rice cooker you are using.
Brown rice needs to be soaked first (about 20-30 mins) prior to cooking to avoid toughness. White rice does not need soaking and takes about 20 minutes on a basic rice cooker, and up to 45 minutes on a fuzzy logic rice cooker.
Tip when using a basic rice cooker: As soon as the COOK indicator light is off, extend cooking a little longer by keeping it on KEEP WARM setting for 10 minutes to absorb the excess moisture. Fluffing the rice with a spatula prior to serving is optional.
